Andrew Miller receives 2017 Project Launch Grant
Politial Science doctoral candidate Andrew C. Miller has been awarded a 2017 Project Launch Grant, by the Global Religion Research Initiative. The initiative, directed by Christian Smith, aims to advance the empirical study of global religion in mainstream academia by granting funds to promising researchers in the field.
Miller's project explores religion's role in contestation for authority between state and non-state actors. To what extent do civilians incorporate traditional spiritual beliefs into assessments of competing actors' capacity? How do these assessments influence civilian decisions to comply with the state or non-state actor? These questions are investigated in the context of Lagos, Nigeria.
